We are building this in Bhubaneswar, for record rooms like the ones we grew up around
Chronolipi started with a specific afternoon: a sub-registrar’s office, a fan, four clerks and a wooden rack, trying to find one 1996 partition deed while a family waited in the corridor. The deed existed. Nobody could prove it was still in the building.
Why encryption first, not encryption also
The obvious product would have been a scanner app with search. We did not build it, because the records that most need an archive are the ones least safe in one: land titles, patient histories, case files, loan documents, a shop’s only copy of a bill. A records system that can be read by its operator is a liability with a search box.
Zero-knowledge is inconvenient for us on purpose. It removes the support call where somebody asks us to “just check” a document, and it means the answer to a subpoena or a rogue employee is a design fact rather than a policy hope.
What we are, honestly, right now
- Live: the marketing site you are reading, the ingestion pipeline, OCR for 14 languages, encryption and the index.
- In pilot: AI archive search with a handful of chambers and one district record room, under agreement.
- Next: SOC 2 Type I engagement, and the sector templates that pilots keep asking for.
We would rather tell you a thing is not finished than have you discover it in month three of a rollout.
Principles we can be held to
- Exit is a feature. Every plan exports originals, text and fields for free, forever, readable without us.
- No invented numbers. No fake customer counts, no “trusted by 500+”, no certification we do not hold.
- Residual risk gets named. If a control has a gap, it is written in the threat model, not in the sales deck.
- Priced for the desk, not the ministry. A shop can pay ₹499. Government pilots are welcome and can be free.
- Indian paper is not a translation job. Odia and Hindi are first-class, not an afterthought with a Latin alphabet.
The team
Sneha Ranjan Mishra — product and records ingestion. Twelve years digitising revenue and court records across Odisha, and the person who insists on the log sheet.
Arobinda Behera — platform and security. Built the processing enclave and the key custody model; previously infrastructure for a payments switch.
Two engineers, one OCR specialist and a part-time counsel. Small enough that you will speak to the people who wrote the code, which is the point.
