Written to be read. Plain sentences, no cross-references to nowhere, and every obligation we have chosen to take on is in the body — not in a portal you have to ask for.

The service, and what it is not
Chronolipi provides encrypted storage, OCR indexing, retrieval and export of records you upload, per your plan. It is a records system, not legal advice, not an EMR, not a substitute for a statutory record of right, and not a court filing service. Nothing here determines the legal value of a document; the digitised copy is evidence of what the paper said on the day you captured it, at the quality you captured it.
Keys, and the one thing you must not lose
Encryption is client-side: your passphrase is the root of every key we hold for you. Consequently we cannot recover a lost passphrase, and no support escalation changes that. You are responsible for storing the recovery kit issued at setup. Where a workspace needs custodial continuity, Enterprise allows a second approver to re-issue keys — which changes who can unlock, never what Chronolipi can read.
Your obligations
You confirm you may lawfully collect and digitise what you upload; that you have told the data subjects their records may be processed by a data processor on your instruction; and that you will not use the service for anything unlawful. Practically: put a retention rule on the archive, do not scan other people's IDs "just in case", and give the app a real device-management policy on shared phones.
Availability, and what happens when we fail
Free, Basic and Pro are offered on a best-efforts basis with a monthly target of 99.5% for upload and retrieval. Enterprise contracts a 99.9% target with service credits. We do not pay consequential damages for an outage, and we will not pretend otherwise — which is why the export is free, complete, and readable without us: the mitigation for our failure is that you can leave with your records in an afternoon.
Fees, overage and cancellation
Plans are prepaid monthly or annually in INR, plus 18% GST. Above your plan's page allowance, overage bills at the published per-page rate; we never lock documents you have already paid to index. Cancel any time from Settings — no retention period, no phone call, no cancellation fee — and your 60-day export window starts the day you cancel.
Liability
Each party's aggregate liability is capped at the fees paid in the preceding 12 months, except that our cap is 3× fees where a breach is caused by our failure to maintain encryption or access controls as described on the security page. Neither party excludes liability for wilful misconduct or anything Indian law will not let us exclude.
Governing law
Indian law, courts at Bhubaneswar, Odisha. Before filing, both parties will attempt a good-faith call between named decision-makers within 15 days — because most disputes about record counts are arithmetic disputes.
