Find the order by date, the paragraph by word, the file before the bench asks
Advocates and chambers, mid-size firms, legal archives of banks and PSUs, court registry digitisation drives.
- What gets extracted from the page
- What the timeline sorts on
- Which gaps and expiries raise a work item
- What an audit or reply export contains
Encryption, keys and hosting are identical for every sector — that part should not be configurable.
What actually goes wrong with this paper
Four familiar disasters
- Hearing dates are the currency of litigation, and they live in paper diaries nobody can query.
- Privilege and client confidentiality make cloud storage a policy violation — and a malpractice question.
- Exhibits go missing between filing and cross-examination, and proving “this is the same scan” afterwards is not fun.
- A senior asks for “the 2011 order in OS 213”; the associate opens a rack, not a laptop.
What Chronolipi does instead
1. File in, indexed. Photograph the paper book; orders, petitions and annexures split into one record per document.
2. Every date becomes a field. Order date, next date, limitation dates and Section 148 windows are extracted and scheduled.
3. Ask the matter. “Orders in this case after the stay was vacated” returns pages with citations, in seconds.
4. Verified bundle. Export a paginated, hashed bundle for filing — plus the integrity receipt if it is challenged.
For legal

Anything the model is unsure about lands in a review queue instead of becoming your record.
What this does for your obligations
Bar Council confidentiality expectations, the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam’s requirements for electronic records, and DPDP obligations towards opposite parties’ personal data are all served by the same design: encryption you hold, an audit log they can check, and retention that ends on time.
Straight answers
Does this replace a citation tool?
No — it indexes your own papers, not law reports. Where case law matters, Chronolipi is what finds the para of your client’s order, not the judgment it cites.
Can a junior ever leak a client file?
Role-based access limits which matters a login can open; watermarks, download approval and the audit log make copies attributable. A departed laptop yields ciphertext.
We are one advocate with two clerks — is this overkill?
Start on Basic. Most chambers begin with last ten years of active matters and add 20 pages a day.
Put legal's worst pile in the timeline
Send us twenty representative pages. We return them indexed, with per-line OCR confidence and a quote for the backlog — free, and deleted from our side once you have them.
Twenty pages takes an afternoon on your side and about a day on ours.
